Is it possible that Alameda enjoys the best weather in the world?Situated in the very center of one of three recognized "world’s best climate zones" (the other two being the Canary Islands and the Northern Coast of Africa), Alameda’s history as a favorite resort destination and commuter address testifies to its reputation as the sunny side of the San Francisco Bay. A sheltered location inside the Golden Gate keeps Alameda comfortably warm, sunny and pleasant year-round, cooler in summer and warmer in winter - and without the famous fog and chill of San Francisco. Temperatures stay within a narrow range, due to the moderating effect of salty Bay breezes. Storms and frosts rarely trouble the island, allowing for an outdoor lifestyle with predictably pleasant Mediterranean weather. ![]() Maximum temperatures in summer average in the upper 60's to low 70's, with an average high temperature of 77°. During the cooler days in summer, the familiar morning fog burns off around 11 am, with gentle ocean breezes arising in the late afternoon/evening. There are occasional 3-day heat waves, during which temperatures reach 85-90°. Winter highs are in the mid to high 50's, with lows in the mid-40's, with an saverage of 63°. Temperatures rarely, if ever, dip into the 30’s. The coldest, wettest months are mid-December to early February, though February has been known to experience temperatures in the mid-70s! Alameda averages over 175 sunny days per year. Almost all of an annual 18 inches of rainfall is received between November and March. Between June and October, normal rainfall is less than one-tenth of an inch. ![]() |
