Film Industry Resources

The Reel Directory, often referred to as the "Bible" for the Industry is the number one source for Film, Video and Multimedia in Northern California. The Reel Directory has been serving the Bay Area for over 28 years. Approximately 5,000 printed copies and 10,000 CDs are distributed annually. Thousands are distributed free of charge to production companies and advertising agencies outside Northern California and through Northern California Film Commissions offices. The Reel Directory can be found at many conventions and trade shows including the Show Biz Expo and AFCI - Locations Trade Show.

The Propville Directory is a free directory providing access to over 2000 sources for renting costumes and props, finding talent, accessing event and film locations, video and camera equipment, expendables and hiring qualified crew. It serves the Northern California, San Francisco Bay Area.

Transportation

By land— Alameda is adjacent to Oakland, with direct access to Interstates 80, 880 and 580, each 5 to 10 minutes away. Alameda is served by four bridges and a dual underwater Tube that handle traffic on and off the Island. See www.dot.ca.gov for highway conditions and repair schedules. AC Transit provides bus service to all places in the East Bay and San Francisco.
By rail— The Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system is 5 minutes away in downtown Oakland, offering connections to San Francisco, San Francisco International airport (SFO), Fremont, Livermore and Pittsburg. The system is a great way to pop to downtown San Francisco especially during peak commute periods when there is heavy traffic on the Bay Bridge. Amtrack also has a station in Oakland, five minutes away, connecting to San Jose, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Reno and all USA destinations.
By Air— The Oakland International Airport is 10 minutes from central Alameda. The facility has a major car rental return center and shuttle to the terminal. Foreign and domestic travel is provided by United, Delta, American, Southwest, Alaska, Continental Jet Blue, ATA, and others. The airport also has a shuttle link to BART and then to San Francisco. It is a general aviation center that can provide services for corporate aircraft as well as helicopter and fixed wing charters. Click on Oakland International Airport for commercial flights and Kaiser Air for charter and corporate air services.
By Sea— Ferries crisscross the Bay providing service from Alameda to Oakland and San Francisco.
