This historic theater is undergoing a renovation begun in 2006.

We want our permit process to work for you. Here are the specifics:

WHO:  Permits for filming in Alameda are issued by the Building Division Permit Center of the City of Alameda.

Filming on the
Alameda Naval Air Station
If you are filming on the former Alameda Naval Air Station, you will also need to get in touch with Mike Hampen, PM Realty Group, 950 West Mall Square, Alameda, CA (510) 749-0304, FAX (510) 749-1095, or by email, mhampen@pmrg.com

WHERE:  The Office is located on the first floor of City Hall in Room 190, at 2263 Santa Clara Avenue, Alameda, California.

WHEN:  The Office is open five days a week:

  • 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday
  • 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Thursday

Permits can be applied for and submitted each work day but must be submitted before the final work hour of each day.

WHAT:  A Film/photography permit is required. Please download the document from this Website, print it and fill it out. You can mail, fax or deliver the completed form to the Permit Center.

When you drop off your permit application, you will also need:

Filming on
State of California Property
There are no permit or site rental fees for filming on state properties. The California Film Commission will gladly help you find and obtain permits for the perfect place to film. Process your permit online for state properties at www.film.ca.gov

  • $1500 deposit to cover costs. Unapplied portion is returned!
  • Insurance: Indemnity & Hold Harmless Agreement as well as Certificates of Insurance
  • Notification of Event form, signed by those residential and commercial properties within 300’
  • Diagram of the event if you are closing sidewalks or streets

Permit processing times are:

  • Two business days if no traffic control is required
  • Four business days if your activity includes stunts and/or pyrotechnics
  • Ten business days if your activity will involve traffic control including street closures
